Holzman, Benjamin Boruch (Rubin, Sam); b. July 21, 1909, Warsaw, Mazowieckie, Poland; To the US July 31, 1922 aboard the SS Poland, Naturalized May 23, 1928 in the District Court of New York; Polish American; Father Jacob Holzman (1895-1934), mother Dvoira Dora Levitt (1870-1962); Attended elementary school for 1 year; Single; Box Spring Maker; No party affiliation; Received Passport# 379570 on March 26, 1937 which listed his address as 1337 55th Street, Brooklyn, New York; Sailed April 7, 1937 aboard the Queen Mary; Arrived in Spain on April 20, 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln-Washington BN, Co. 1; Rank Cabo; Served at the Aragon, Teruel, and the Ebro Offensive; Returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the Ausonia; Married Dorthy Rand (1915-2003) on September 14, 1939 in NYC, children Daniel Holzman, David Holzman, Peter Holzman, and Marion Amelia Holzman; WWII US Navy, Seabees, Pacific Theater, Rank Seaman 1st Class; Upholsterer and carpenter until his 80s; d. June 27, 2004 (at 94) Flushing, Queens, New York, buried in Eastfield Menorah Park.
Siblings: brothers Morris Holzman (1891-1959), Max Holzman (1897-1960), Ezra “Eddy” Holzman (1914-1978), sisters Sure Rifka “Lucy” Holzman (1899-1989), and Helen Holzman (1914-2005).
