Taylor, Daniel Bede. b. June 23, 1910, Hattiesburg, Mississippi; African American; Single; Unemployed Laborer; No party affiliation; Received Passport# 499323 on February 23, 1938 which listed his address as 2519 West Lake Street, Chicago, Illinois (4235 Calumet Avenue, Chicago, Illinois); Arrived in Spain via Massanet on June 10, 1938; Trained at Montblanc June 13 to 23; Served with the XV BDE, Mackenzie-Papineau BN, Co. 3, light machine gunner; Rank Soldado; Served at the Ebro Offensive; WIA July 30, 1938 during the attack on Hill 481, hit in the shoulder, in Barcelona No. 6 and Mataro no. 14 for one month and 12 days; After recovery was at Quartel in Las Planas; Returned to the US on December 15, 1938 aboard the Paris; WWII US Army; d. November 25, 1982.

Biography: Daniel Bede Taylor was born in Illinois on June 23, 1910. He was unemployed when he volunteered to fight in Spain where he arrived in early June 1938. Taylor served as a machine gunner in the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion. Wounded on July 30, 1938, during the assault on Hill 481, after an extended hospital stay, Taylor returned to the United States aboard the Paris on December 15, 1938.
