Schembari, Giovanni. (John Schembere, John Schimbari, Chambrai Schember; Schembori); b. October 31, 1894 (1893), Ragusa, Italy; Italian American; Shoemaker and Cook; CP; Received Passport# 376393 on March 19, 1937 which listed his address as 1430 3rd Avenue, and 69 (60) St. Marks Place, both NYC; Sailed March 31, 1937 aboard the Aquitania; Arrived in Spain on April 20, 1937; Served with the XII Brigade (Garibaldis), 2nd Battalion, Co. 4, Observer, later Intendencia; Served at Huesca, Brunete, Farlete, Fuentes de Ebro, Extramadura, Retreats and the Ebro Offensive; Wounded in action at Fuentes de Ebro October 1937, ear and hand; Returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the Ausonia; d. November (December) 1959, buried in Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, hillside, Cook County, Illinois; Wife Marie Battaglia Scembari, Sons George and Salvatore.
