k-Finley, Hiram Dinsmore Mother E. L. Finlay; CP; Received Passport# 355458 on December 2, 1936 which listed his address as R. F. D. No. 1, Coshocton, Ohio; 30 years old; Sailed January 28, 1937 aboard the Aquitania; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln BN; KIA July 16 (8), 1937, Brunete; In a letter to the FALB regarding a request for details of Finley’s death from his mother the American personnel section sent the following details to Phil Bard at FALB:
He was killed in action at Brunete on July 8, and was buried there the following day. A short time ago I sent home a small packet containing his letters and wallet with a comrade who was returning, who promised to turn it over to your office for delivery. In regard to 200 pesetas which Mrs. Finlay mentioned her son having sent her, but which she did not receive, I have investigated this and found that because of monetary regulations this was not sent. We have the pesetas, and ask that you send her $15 from the funds of the F. A. L. B., since it is impossible to send this money from here…
