Hunt, Helmar John (John Helmar); b. July 13, 1917, Kamaih, Idaho; Father David Thomas Hunt (1879-1930), mother Helen Kennedy (Doubleday) Hunt (1882-?); Elementary school education; Single; Lumber Worker; CP 1934; Domicile Deer Park Washington; Sailed June 26, 1937 aboard the Britannic; Arrived in Spain via Massanet on July 11, 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln-Washington BN; Deserted on October 31, 1937 after the death of his brother; Record was good until that time, hard worker when interviewed beginning in November, was broken physically and mentally; In Albacete jail until November 27, 1937, after release he was given a 15-day leave to Denia then returned to the BDE in January; Appears to have deserted during the Retreats; Returned to the US on June 23, 1938 as a stowaway aboard the Aronmouth and landed in New Orleans; WWII US Army, enlisted August 24, 1942; Married Gwendolyn Boggs Davis (1914-1956) on April 23, 1949 in Missoula, Montana. d. May 5, 1972, Spokane, Washington, buried in Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, Washington; Brother volunteer Hugh Maxwell Hunt killed in action during the Retreats.
