Winsheimer, Lawrence Arthur b. December 26, 1913, Derry, Pennsylvania; Father Frank R. Winsheimer, mother Lillian Mae Howard; Prior military service in the US Army, 13th Field Artillery, Hawaii, June 1935-May 1937, Rank PFC; Primary school education; Single; Laborer; Spanish CP; Domicile 1193 Grand View, North Braddock, Pennsylvania; Left for Spain on May 17, 1938 traveling on a Spanish Passport; Arrived in Spain via Massanet on May 29, 1938 over the Pyrenees; Trained May 29 to June 24, 1938 at Brigade instruction camp; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln-Washington BN from June 24 to July 23, 1938 BDE Transmissiones; Served at Ebro Offensive (crossing of the Ebro, Gandesa, Sierra Pandols, and Sierra Caballs); Returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the Ausonia; d. August 2, 1996, Freeport, Pennsylvania, buried in Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, FIND-A-GRAVE#91127617; Noted as “Unafraid under fire.”
