January 18, 1917, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Jewish; Father Isreal Shapiro (b. in Palestine); High School education; Single; Curtain manufacturer; No political affiliation; Received Passport# 417386 on May 19, 1937 which listed his address as 2538 South 10th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Sailed June 4, 1937 aboard the Statendam; Arrived in Spain via Espolla on June 23, 1937; Served with the XV Brigade, with the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion in training he was transferred to the Lincoln-Washington Battalion as a replacement; Served at Quinto, Belchite and the Retreats; Rank Soldado; WIA Belchite, was in hospital for months; Requested repatriation; KIA April 3, 1938, Gandesa during the Retreats.
