Biography

Maraldo, Luigi b. January 14, 1895, Medino, Province of Pordenone, Italy, worked as a steward on ships of the Cosulich line; To the US in 1924, jumped ship; Italian American; POW; Father Pietro Maraldo; mother Elisa (Ventura) Maraldo; Maritime Clerk and organizer among immigrants; To Spain early in 1937; Served in a Transportation unit as a driver; Captured by the Nationalists in September 1938 and imprisoned in San Pedro de Cardeña prison; Released to Italian authorities, he was detained in Ponza; Captured by the Germans and deported to Buchenwald where he remained until the end of the war; Postwar he lived in Trieste.
