November 19, 1909, Johnstown, Pennsylvania; Father Wallace Edward Shissler (1871-1941), mother Clara Lavinia (Noble) Shissler (1874- 1957); Graduated from Greater Johnstown High School then attended Columbia University 2 years; Single; Journalist and Actor (stage name Robert Garis); CP; Received Passport# 427285 on May 27, 1937 which listed his address as 417 Highland Avenue, Johnstown, Pennsylvania; Sailed June 2, 1937 aboard the Aquitania; Arrived in Spain via Setcases on June 19, 1937; Served with the XV Brigade, Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion (?); Killed in action October 13, 1937, Fuentes de Ebro.
Sibling: brothers John Lewis Shissler (1900-?), Wallace Shissler,Jr. (1902-?), Philip Shissler (1905-?).
