[1930 Federal Census. Lived at 1825 Linton Street, Pittsburg, PA. Father and Mother from Romania, Merkowitz, Louis and Rachel. Sam fifth of six children only boy. Sophie (1913), Bertha (1914), Clara (1915), & Pearl (1921); In August 1936 he was apprehended as a stowaway aboard the SS Scanyork and was transferred and returned to New York aboard the SS Minneque. Family name may have originally been Merkowitz or Merlsoroitz.]
