[1930 Federal Census . Lived at 1825 Linton Street, Pittsburg, PA.Father and Mother from Romania, Merkowitz, Louis and Rachel. Sam fifth of six children only boy. Sophie (1913), Bertha (1914), Clara (1915), & Pearl (1921); In August 1936 he was apprehended as a stowaway aboard the SS Scanyork and was transferred and returned to New York aboard the SS Minneque. Family name may have originally been Merkowitz or Merlsoroitz.]
