September 19, 1916, NYC; Father Thomas Zak (1878-?), mother Pauline Zak (1888-?); 6 years Technical School; 3 years prior service with the US Army, NY National Guard, 71st Infantry; Single; Surveyor; CP January 1937 and YCL 1932, Federation of Architects, Engineers, Chemists and Technicians, CIO; Received Passport# 466079 on July 30, 1937 which listed his address as 113 East 3rd Street, and 1st Avenue, both NYC; Sailed August 11, 1937 aboard the Queen Mary; Arrived in Spain via Espolla August 21, 1937; Served with the XV BDE, Lincoln-Washington BN, Co. 3 October-December 7, 1937; Brigade MG Co., December 7, 1937-March 12, 1938; Mackenzie-Papineau BN, March 12-July 6, 1938; 35th Division, Special MG BN, July 6, 1938-withdrawal; Served at Fuentes de Ebro, Teruel, Retreats, and Ebro Offensive; Returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the Ausonia; WWII US Army Air Corps; Wife Rhoda Loesberg, daughter Linda Jane Zak Weintraub (1942-1986).
